Ryan Ford of APEX Movement teams up with Dr. Kenneth Kao to show you the dangers of wearing poor footwear during training. They go over some of the most common ankle injuries and how to change bad habits. Several shoes are used as examples including an average trainer, which gets blasted for its excessive padding, and the feiyue, Ryan’s preferred minimalist shoe. Ryan Ford and Dr. Ken also give tips on how to move toward a more natural footing in parkour. Check out the video below!
APEX Movement and Movemental Apparel went on a tour of the western United States to “attend gatherings, run workshops, and document the parkour lifestyle.” A video has just been released on Ryan Ford’s “DemonDrills” YouTube channel of their stop in Las Vegas. The video documents several members of Las Vegas Parkour whose lives have been completely altered through parkour, one even going so far as to say that parkour is their “sun.” Check out the video below!
Ryan Ford and Colorado Parkour have released a video showing their dedication to the life and love of Korey Sarvas, a traceur who recently passed away. Ryan Ford calls this the “Korey Workout,” and it includes doing 30 backflip burpees for time. Ryan includes this statement in the video description:
I remember trying to convince Korey Sarvas to compete in the 2010 APEX Movement Invitational. As more of a freerunner, time trials weren’t Korey’s thing and he was hesitant to enter. Finally, he decided to give it a shot and made it through all the rounds and finished in 3rd. He had no expectations and was just happy to be there with all his new and old friends. It was remarkable to see how well he did despite focusing his training on other things! Everything I remember about Korey was full of jokes, smiles, and a positive, uplifting attitude.
If you’re a devotee of conditioning in parkour, then you will know about Ryan Ford’s Demon Drills. Some of the most comprehensive body-weight workouts, Demon Drills has been selected by YouTube to be a part of the Next Trainer program. “They will be featuring DemonDrills and providing Ryan with a $15,000 equipment and promotional package as well as mentoring from fitness professionals like DeStorm and Billy Blanks of Tae Bo. The whole goal of the program is to supercharge the careers of the selected trainers by developing their video production, editing, branding, and exposure. Expect big things coming soon from Demon Drills!” See Ryan’s announcement video below!

The APEX Movement Parkour and Freerunning Level 1 Certification was established in 08 and has been tested and refined at our gyms for the past 4 yrs. For the first time ever on Dec. 17, we will be opening our certification to the public. Our methods have been tried on thousands of students since 06 and we’ve found that great PKFR coaches must know more than simple techniques and exercises. Excellent coaches also understand communication, sports psychology, biomechanics, and evolutionary medicine. It is our goal to put a method to the madness of coaching PKFR by utilizing structured training and catalyzing self-discovery through movement.
Nobody needs a Parkour license and everyone is welcome to teach however they would like to, but we wanted to put this out there because so many people have been asking us about how to get certified, how to get insurance, how to open a gym, etc. The truth is that we have been doing this for 6 years now and we have a ton of great knowledge to share with people who seriously want to become a great coach or open their own gym. We have reached thousands of people through our gym who would have otherwise never tried Parkour. If we can help others make the same kind of positive change that we’ve made, then it’s a win win for everyone.
Ryan Ford has sent us a statement about the completion of the Move Beyond Possible Tour:
Whew! After 29 days, 5000 miles, 8 parks, 12 cities, 10 states, and 2 countries, the 2011 Move Beyond Possible Parkour Tour is over. Amos Rendao, Mason Fleet, Jake Smith, Cosmo Dudley, Erica Madrid, and I traveled around the western USA teaching, training, and producing media centered around parkour. It was certainly a long, demanding journey that challenged us all mentally and physically, but I can definitely say we all experienced massive improvement as people and practitioners by the end of our travels. It was such an amazing opportunity to train at so many beautiful places and meet so many great people. Parkour in America is stronger than ever and I can safely say that leaders all around the country are directing this amazing discipline in an exciting and positive way. I would like to thank everyone who helped us along the way and special thanks to our title sponsors who made this trip possible, APEX Movement, Movemental, XingTea, and Native Eyewear. Be sure to keep an eye out in August for a ton of video episodes featuring action, interviews, gyms and more from our journey!

While backpacking through Europe, Ryan Ford of Colorado Parkour and Cosmo Dudley came up with the idea to create a clothing line that “aims to provide clothing, apparel, and artwork to people who share our passion for art, film, Parkour, Freerunning, and other similar movement styles.” What they came up with is Movemental Apparel. Ryan tells us that “Movemental is a lifestyle brand that embodies the creative, youthful energy of Parkour and Freerunning. The company was founded on the ideals of expressing oneself through movement.”
Raging Bull Productions, Inc. have produced a helicopter camera. There is no other way to phrase such a statement – they have a heli-cam. What is the best way to show off a heli-cam? Film Jereme Sanders of The Tribe doing parkour. The R.B. Copter is a camera mount developed …
